Great granite bouldering out of nowhere
While Southern Illinois has a lifetime worth of sandstone, Southeast Missouri has... pretty much nothing. However, in this land deserted of rock lies a cluster of granite boulders. The grain is really big and abrasive, comparable to the one of Joshua Tree and Vedauwoo. The boulders are big and have enough features to offer a great concentration of problems. Although it might not be a place where you would spend a month on a road trip, this place is a gem for the locals, and totally worth a few hours detour on your way to Southern Illinois.
