2nd Mountain provides the best concentration of bouldering in the Shenandoah Valley. The overhanging and vertical sandstone of 2nd provides for an abundance of problems ranging from V0 to V10.
Bouldering and short roped climbing have been done at 2nd for decades, though its potential was not realized until the late 1990s, at which point a local crew of Harrisonburg climbers began putting up a host of quality boulder problems.
Despite the quality rock and stellar problems, some boulder problems have seen no, or very few, repeats. Potential for new problems does exist for those with an adventurous spirit or superhuman strength.
